The 2018-2019 VISTA project will largely focus on launching and implementing a robust volunteer training program, which foundation is currently being established by the 2017-2018 VISTA member. This project will take the current VISTA member’s training materials and establish a regular training schedule, work to increase volunteer’s knowledge and comfort with handling challenges at shelter, and ultimately support with increasing volunteer retention. Additionally, the VISTA project will work alongside the Family Support Center’s Volunteer Coordinator to recruit new volunteers, including reaching out specifically to service clubs to encourage group coverage. The VISTA member will support in continuing to identify in-kind donation sources, as well as financial support to ensure Pear Blossom Place has the basic supplies and resources to remain a high quality, safe, and family friendly environment for those experiencing homelessness.
