The Social Media and Communications Intern or Volunteer assists with and coordinates social media as well as a variety of communications and marketing tasks for the City of Sacramento Volunteer Program. This position will offer an intern or volunteer the opportunity to experience city government while working on a variety of topics that directly impact the community and to utilize their marketing and communications skills.

Skills, qualifications or requirements for assignment:

Knowledge of and experience using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)

Graphic design skills: Canva/Publisher/other applications

Concise and creative writing skills

Ability to multi-task and self-motivate

Strong communications skills

Microsoft Office Suite

Communications, public relations, marketing or journalism experience

Some photography and video experience is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities (List specific tasks to be done by the volunteer):

1. Manage and engage in a variety of social media platforms

2. Draft a consistent schedule of content for various social media channels

3. Analyze and track impressions and engagement across platforms

4. Support relevant community influencers

5. Research social media trends and innovations

6. Participate in the production of multimedia content for marketing

7. Create e-newsletters

8. Post volunteer opportunities on a variety of online platforms

9. Create flyers and other promotional materials

10. Create social media toolkits to assist with promotion

11. Assist with planning volunteer events such as volunteer fairs, orientations, trainings, volunteer coordinator meetings, etc.

12. Serve as brand ambassador at meetings, community events and volunteer fairs

13. Administrative duties as needed

14. Other duties as assigned

Hours and start/end dates are flexible.
