Lunch @ the Library

Are you looking for something special to do this summer? Would you like to help kids in your community get a free healthy lunch? Are you ready to be in charge of an important program?

If you answered yes then we have a great opportunity for you.

We are looking for dedicated teen volunteer coordinators to provide oversight for the Lunch @ the Library program. Program coordinators (interns) will work under the direction of Library staff. Lunch @ the Library will be offered at 10 Library locations and two (2) volunteer coordinators will be assigned to each branch. Lunches will be served Tuesday through Friday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. starting Tuesday, June 13 and ending on Friday, Aug. 4. The volunteer coordinator’s shift runs from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. Summer interns will receive a $500.00 stipend at the conclusion of the program.

This is a great opportunity to gain real life, practical work experience, satisfy community service requirement, and receive a letter of recommendation and a $500.00 stipend.

About the Program

Lunch @ the Library helps keep Sacramento’s children and teens nourished and engaged while school is out. By serving free healthy meals during the summer, the Library is helping to combat hunger and ensure that Sacramento kids return to school in the fall ready to learn.

Families who participate in Lunch at the Library also take part in library programs, learn about library services and resources, and have a positive sense of well-being when they are at the library.

In 2016, the Lunch @ the Library program served more than 8,000 meals to youth in the greater Sacramento area with more than 50 volunteers contributing their time and talent in support of the program.

Lunch @ the Library 2017 will be offered at these 10 libraries:
