ORGANIZATION: NEW HAVEN LEON SISTER CITY PROJECT INC

New Haven/Leon SCP depends on volunteers and interns for much of what it does to promote education, public health and poverty reduction in Nicaragua and Connecticut. Below is a list of volunteer needs here in New Haven at our Whitney Avenue office. We are ESPECIALLY looking for people who could be involved a few hours a month ove a longer time period.

We generally match up volunteers with projects/tasks depending on their skills and availability. Needs include:

Fundraising, special events, online efforts.
Research related to program development.... Spanish a plus though not essential.
Mailings, basic office help.
Help prepare bank deposits twice a month.
Outreach, tabling.
Graphic design, marketing.
Possible Board involvement.

Data entry.

Climate change / public health organizing.
Participatory art creation / coordination.

New Haven/Leon SCP is a binational organization promoting social justice, education and sustainable development in the New Haven and León communities.

Description

The primary work of the NH/LSCP in León, Nicaragua is to support community based initiatives in the rural communities of Goyena and Troilo and to facilitate programs and projects that improve public health and community based education, support women’s rights, and address root causes of poverty. In New Haven we work to respond to climate change and promote public health. In both communities we work to build local leadership and capacity and address root causes of poverty and injustice.
