ORGANIZATION: Compassus Hospice - Serving Delaware County & Chester County

Do What Matters

The mission to Compassus is to honor life and offer hope to individuals facing a life-limiting illness by supporting them and their families with compassion and dignity. Our focus is on pain management, comfort care and emotional and spiritual support. We provide needed services to terminally ill patients wherever they reside: nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or in their own home.

Volunteering for hospice is a great way to not only help others at a difficult time but also benefit greatly from the insights gained from relationships with patients and their families and they really do improve the quality of life for them as well. Hospice patients benefit greatly from alternative therapies such as massage therapy. Massage Therapy can help relieve pain and enhance relaxation. It can provide many physical, sensory, and mental benefits during end of life care. The volunteer massage therapist will address the areas that would bring the client the most relief. It is unlikely that the therapist would be working with the entire body unless it is easy and comfortable for the client. Sessions are usually short depending on the receptivity of the client. Again, services are provided to the patient wherever they reside: nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or in their own home.
