According to the Centers for Disease Control, Ohio ranks in the top five states with the highest rate of Opioid overdose. Unfortunately, the effects are most devastating to the tiniest patients - babies. Just hours old, many babies start to show drug withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, constant crying, joint stiffness, problems sleeping, and even seizures. A staggering 50% of all babies born to mothers’ with Opioid addictions are dependent on the medications used to treat them.

Join us from 10AM- 2PM on Saturday, May 6th as we make fleece-tie blankets for babies born addicted to heroin. What better place to create these than a craft store? We will be meeting as a group at the Pat Catan's in Westlake in their designated craft classroom. (located on the lefthand side of the front of store with large windows) We need 20 volunteers to give of your time and pour love into these blankets!
AGENDA:
10:00AM- 10:15AM Introduction/ Summary of the cause
10:15AM- 11:00AM Begin crafting (a Pat Catan's Staff Member will be assisting us for the first hour)
11:00AM- 2:00PM Making fleece-tie blankets
Lunch will be provided as well as supplies. (However, you are welcome to purchase extra fleece materials from the craft store to help us reach more babies.)

This Unified Promise is in support of MetroHealth’s Mother and Child Dependency Program, (link to: http:// www.metrohealth.org/ mother-and-child-dependency-program) which offers pregnant women and their infants a welcoming environment to deal with the medical and emotional problems caused by addiction to drugs. They provide expert medical care in a nonjudgmental atmosphere and collaboration and coordination with community agencies. MetroHealth wants to see every mom and baby living healthy and to their full potential!
