Tristen is looking for a mentor just like you!
Tristen is looking for someone who loves fishing, video games and having fun!

We are looking for motivated and engaging adults across Rhode Island to be part of our Community-Based Mentoring Program. Our Community-Based Mentoring Program matches at-risk children between the ages of 7 and 15, in long-term, one-to-one relationships with adult volunteer mentors (who are at least 19 years old). 'Littles' and 'Bigs' are matched on the basis of personality, common interests, the child's needs and the volunteer's strengths. 'Bigs' commit to spending 6-8 hours monthly with their 'Little' for a year. Together they decide on their outings and activities within the community.

A prospective mentor participates in a thorough interview so the program staff can get to know you. The aim is to make the best match possible by pairing a child sharing similar interests with the mentor's skills and experience. Mentors also provide references and complete a background check.

Volunteers have a 2-hour group training prior to being matched with a mentee. Volunteers also have access to specialized training through the year on topics related to youth development and mentoring. Volunteer are assigned a Program Coordinator who gives real time coaching to mentors.
