Edu-Futuro is looking for mentors and one-time volunteers for our Emerging Leader's Program: Part I (ELPI) and would love your help! Mentors and volunteers are utilized to inspire our students and guide them in pursuing a college education, taking pride in their cultural identity, and becoming leaders in their communities. They leave lasting impressions on our students and are essential to the success of our program.
The Emerging Leaders Program is a multi-workshop program that focuses on leadership development, college preparation, and community involvement for Latino and other immigrant youth in grades 9 through 12. Mentors will provide their assigned student "crews" with valuable advice in areas such as public speaking, goal setting, advocacy, and career planning. Mentors are young and reliable professionals in the northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC area looking to empower and inspire youth in their own communities.
Our Summer ELP I session will take place from June 26th to July 29th, 2017. Mentors are asked to commit to six workshops and amentor orientation on Saturday, June 24th at the Syphax Education Center in Arlington, but there are other events that may require full-day participation (such as college visits). We will have workshops in four different locations: Arlington, Springfield, Falls Church, and Fairfax. The exact location of each site is listed in the application. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please fill out the application at http://tinyurl.com/MentorSummer2017
If you're interested in volunteering with us but cannot commit on a weekly basis, consider becoming a one-time volunteer! One-time volunteers play an important role in many of our workshops. Positions include being part of a career panel or a judge for our speech competition. A complete list of opportunities are listed in the application. Please keep in mind that all one-time volunteer opportunities will be during weekday evenings. If you're interested, please fill out our application at http://tinyurl.com/VolunteerSummer2017 or contact David Spinosa at David@edu-futuro.org for more information.
