The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Do you speak Spanish and want to get more involved in the local community?
Our Volunteers: We need YOU to make a difference in the life of a youth who wants to transform their life. As a mentor with New Pathways for Youth, you will contribute to ending the cycle of poverty and violence in our community through a mentoring relationship.
Our volunteer mentors are caring, consistent adults who commit to seeing their youth three times a month for at least a year. One of these visits is to attend a workshop at our community center, where our youth learn social and emotional skills and set achievable goals for themselves with the support of their mentor. The other two outings are up to your youth’s goals and your creativity.
Our Youth: Our youth come from backgrounds of extreme poverty and homelessness and need the support of a stable adult in their lives. New Pathways for Youth seeks to partner these amazing youth with caring adult mentors through our transformative mentoring program.
Our Program: Our evidence-based training and curriculum ensures that this is an effective 1-on-1 relationship for the youth and the mentor. The results are pretty extraordinary - after participating in our program, 75% of our youth pursue post-secondary education! Most of our families are Spanish speaking, so you can connect with these youth and families in a unique way.
