By getting involved as an ASSE Area Representative, you will be making a difference in the world - one young person at a time. As an Area Rep, you’ll be that all-important point person for students placed in your area during their year abroad. Counselor, advocate and friend are just some of the roles you will play as you oversee the ASSE program in your area and help an international student get the most out of their year abroad. In addition, you’ll help teenagers in your own community become ASSE exchange students abroad. Opening up the world of international experiences and learning to students in your area is an important role of being an ASSE Area Representative.
DUTIES: Recruiting families to host a student(s), maintain contact with students & families for the duration of the students stay in the US, document interaction with students & families. You will receive training and on-going support from your ASSE Area Coordinator and the full ASSE team. The Area Representative position is a part-time, stipend-paid position and many of our area representatives work other full time jobs. Description
ASSE is a High School Exchange Program, with partnerships in over 40 countries around the world. When you become a host family for an exchange student, your entire family will discover a world of fun and enlightening adventure. Simply by sharing your home for as little as three months, a semester or a school year, you will be giving an exceptional young person from another country the opportunity of a lifetime-to live with your family and experience the language, customs and culture of our country. In return, your exchange student will bring to your family a bit of his or her homeland. Students come from Europe, Asia/Pacific, the Middle East, the Americas and Africa.
Or you can choose to join our International Team of ASSE Area Representatives. As an ASSE Area Representative, some of the roles you will play are; counselor, advocate, and friend. Most importantly, you are making a difference in the world - one young person at a time!
