Our Child Assessment team is still looking for a volunteer to assist them in making follow up phone calls. The times and dates are somewhat flexible but will be needed each month. Also, you will go through a short training with a staff member before you begin.
Just a little overview:
We complete a follow up survey for families who have visited Sunflower House. This typically takes place about two months after the initial visit to Sunflower House. The survey asks for feedback about the visit to Sunflower House and about other aspects of the multidisciplinary team. The survey results help us to improve our services and they are used for grant reports. In order for the survey results to remain confidential, we are in need of a volunteer who can take time to make these calls. The amount of time it takes varies based on the number of families served in a month and if people answer the phone. We request three phone calls be attempted with a family before they are removed from the list of calls. Once the calls for a month are completed there is not a need for additional phone calls until the beginning of the next month when a new list is generated. At times, it will be necessary to use a phone interpreter to complete some of the surveys.

Mission Statement
To protect children in our community from physical and sexual abuse through education, advocacy, forensic and medical services.
Description
Sunflower House is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance (NCA) as an official Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) that is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse while providing a place to tell and heal for those children who have suffered abuse. Its mission is "to protect children in our community from physical and sexual abuse through education, advocacy and forensic services." Its vision is "safe children thriving in nurturing families and communities."
Sunflower House fulfills its important mission by providing services in two key program areas:
Education - The Sunflower House Education Program provides child abuse prevention education in more than 160 elementary schools, preschools and early learning centers in 100 percent of school districts in Wyandotte and Johnson counties in Kansas. It is also represented in increasingly more Kansas districts outside the Kansas City metropolitan area. In addition, Sunflower House provides educational presentations for youth and adults at a variety of community events, places of worship, training facilities and professional meetings.
Child Assessment - The Sunflower House Child Assessment Program serves children in Johnson and Wyandotte counties who have been referred by law enforcement and/or child protective services. Working as part of a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), the Sunflower House Child Assessment Program is able to reduce the trauma to abused children by providing a safe and supportive environment for them to reveal the details of their abuse to our trained forensic interviewers, receive trauma-focused therapy and ongoing family support services.
