ORGANIZATION: Boston Partners in Education

Boston Partners in Education is looking for volunteers for our Power Lunch program in the Dorchester and South Boston areas.

Volunteers work one-on-one with students in kindergarten through third grade for an hour per week during the student’s lunch period. During the session you will read and discuss books with the student, enhance their reading skills with some educational games, and, most importantly, form a lasting bond over reading.

Boston Partners in Education provides training and mentoring to help facilitate a happy and successful match. We are required by the Boston Public Schools to run a CORI/SORI background check on each potential volunteer; this background check is run at no cost to you.

About Boston Partners in Education

Location:

192 South Street, Ste. 600, Boston, MA 02111, US

Mission Statement

Boston Partners in Education enhances the academic achievement and nurtures the growth of Boston's public school students by providing them with focused, individualized in-school volunteer support. With the commitment and involvement of the entire community, all students in Boston will develop the skills, self-confidence and motivation to recognize and achieve their full potential.

Description

Boston Partners in Education has been supporting teachers and students in Boston Public Schools for over 50 years. Our trained volunteers serve as academic mentors to help students gain the skills, self-confidence, and motivation they need to succeed in school and in life.

Our academic mentors are community members who volunteers in pre K-12 classrooms in the Boston Public Schools (BPS). Mentors offer support in any subject area, though we focus on ELA and math for grades K-8. They commit to spending the year with the same student, or small group of students, every week for an hour a week during the school day. Ideally, the match stays together over the course of a few years, thus forming a bond that goes beyond academics.
