We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping out in our office on a regular, weekly basis. We need volunteers in the following capacity: Monday and Wednesday from 10:30am-12:30pm to help us put away our Food Bank delivery and Monday-Thursday from 3pm-5pm to help pack Food Boxes. Food Boxes are the weekly food supplies that we give to our clients. Sometimes these boxes can be their only source of food. Clients are able to call into our office from 3pm-5pm Monday-Thursday and order their food. We allow them to customize their order and try to follow their specifications as closely as we can, given we receive our food from the Food Bank and may not have every item.
We will be holding a Volunteer Orientation for new folks at our office (38 Mason St.) on Monday, May 1st from 5:30-7:30pm. Please RSVP by 4/17 if you would like to attend. It is mandatory that all new volunteers attend an orientation before they begin helping out in the office. We will be discussing our work, policies and privacy around client info, and diving into some fun volunteer tasks.

About AT THE CROSSROADS
Location:
167 Jessie St., SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94105, US
Mission Statement
At The Crossroads reaches out to homeless youth and young adults at their point of need, and works with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives. By bringing our services directly onto the streets, we cultivate long-term, unconditional relationships with young people who would otherwise be disconnected from consistent support. We empower our clients to accomplish their individual goals, build community, pursue their passions, and find their own paths to happiness and stability. We believe that there are no limits to what our clients can achieve, and that everyone deserves the chance to build an outstanding life.
Description
In 1997, ATC was founded by Rob Gitin and Taj Mustapha after they received an Echoing Green Fellowship to start a program for underserved homeless youth. They designed ATC’s nighttime outreach program to serve these disconnected young people and bring support directly to them, without lots of paperwork and long wait times. In May 2018 Charles Lerner joined our team as our new Executive Director. Under Charles’ leadership, ATC published its first-ever ad campaign, completed a strategic planning process that resulted in three strategic directions for 2020-2023, and launched a project to create a theory of change model that will guide our work moving forward. After 24 years, meeting youth where they are at and providing them with unconditional support still remains the foundation of At The Crossroads’ work. To this day, we have never kicked a single client out of our program.
Based on over two decades of experience, we know that building long-term caring relationships with the most disconnected young people on the streets results in the following outputs:
- Increased trust and comfort in ATC’s counselors over time.
- Increased access to food and essential supplies that help clients think beyond survival mode.
- Increased achievement of individual goals related to housing, mental and physical health needs, and school or employment.
