Homestretch is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and experienced piano teacher to instruct two children in the program. This is a great opportunity for a classically trained pianist to give back to the community through sharing the gift of music with two homeless girls who are eager to learn piano. This volunteer opportunity requires two hours of on-site lessons on a weekly basis and 30 minutes of lesson prep outside of lessons. If you are good at working with elementary school students, and are eager to share your professional talents this is a great volunteer opportunity for you!
Applicant must be consistently available on either Monday or Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm, or Tuesday evenings from 5:30-6:30pm. Homestretch is closed on all major holidays, and we follow the FCPS calendar for closings as well.
The applicant must:
- Have received classical training in piano
- 1-2 year’s experience teaching
- Skilled in working with elementary school children
- Exhibit a high level of personal responsibility and timeliness
- Create an energetic and positive atmosphere of learning
- Be computer literate
- Uphold Homestretch confidentiality standards and protocol
- Be able to easily get to lessons at Homestretch, located at 303 South Maple Avenue, Falls Church, VA 22046
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Not be convicted of any state or Federal criminal offense
- Complete an Application and Background Check form
- Complete an in-person interview with the Development Specialist/Volunteer Coordinator

Description
Homestretch is a nonprofit family transitional housing agency. We provide homeless families with long-term subsidized housing and all support services necesary to help them achieve self-sufficiency. Support services include intensive case management, employment counseling, credit counseling, domestic abuse counseling, substance abuse counseling and monitoring, English as a Second Language instruction, enrichment activities for children and teens, community service links, and comprehensive life skills training. Families can receive housing and services for up to two years.
