Hospice volunteers provide companionship to patients and offer respite care for the caregiver. Ways volunteers can help include: friendly visits, writing letters, reading to patients, light housekeeping, running errands, meal preparation, and hair or nail care. Bereavement volunteers support families and friends of deceased patients. Bereavement volunteers may assist with suport groups or provide support in mailing grief support education to families or by making bereavement phone calls. Administrative volunteers help serve patients and families by preparing educational materials for families and in performing clerical duties in the hospice office.
