The Friends of the Hilton Head Library have an exciting opportunity for someone looking to lend their expertise to this important community asset. The Friends mission is to use our funds to help our library be the first-rate public service our community values expect. The Friends buy books, equipment, and supplies that are not covered by county and state funding; we sponsor events and speakers that are interesting to our community; and we sponsor children’s reading programs, as well as many other learning and growth opportunities for both kids and adults.
The duties of the Communications and Marketing Director are to:
Produce a newsletter 3 times per year with articles provided by the Friends and Library staff.
Use Constant Contact to inform our membership of newsworthy information.
Provide articles to the local newspapers regarding Library events/needs.
Plan fund-raising opportunities, including the Birdies for Charity campaign in conjunction with the Heritage Classic Foundation.
Write grant applications.
Attend monthly Friends Board meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

Mission Statement
The Friends of the Hilton Head Library was organized in 1971 as a non-profit organization to promote literacy and encourage the pursuit of life long learning through the use of the library's resources. We raise funds to help our library be the first-rate public service our community values expect. The Friends buy books, equipment, and supplies that are not covered by county and state funding; we sponsor events and speakers that are interesting to our community; and we sponsor children's reading programs, as well as many other learning and growth opportunities for both kids and adults. The bulk of our funding comes from membership contributions and the proceeds from our Friends' Bookshop located to the left as you enter the lobby of the library.
Description
The Friends exists to help the Hilton Head library by providing funds for many items not covered by the state and county funding. For example, we have bought new furniture for the children's library and new computers for public and staff use. In addition, we provide programming for both children and adults.
