The VISTA will expand communications for ESLC programs by building relationships, reaching new supporters, nourishing our current stakeholders and generally telling ESLC’s story to the broader community. These activities will lead to more resources for programming and will increase our ability to help more children learn to read. By leveraging resources, working strategically and planning carefully, the VISTA will pilot a new and more effective outreach and communications plan. This will help grow our Bruce Vento site from serving only Kindergarten to also serving Pre-K and 1 st through 3 rd graders. The VISTA will work under the guidance of the Development and Outreach Officer to development a 3-year to plan for building partnerships, communication outreach, and donor messaging. Position will also incorporate diversity goals into the outreach plan to be sure our children can see themselves in the support network we are building for them.

Mission Statement
"Unlocking each child's potential through the foundation of reading."
Description
East Side Learning Center (ESLC) strives to be a major force in "unlocking each child’s potential through the foundation of reading." ESLC does this by providing year-round, personalized, one-on-one reading tutoring at no cost to families for nearly 350 St. Paul children (K-3) who read below grade level and do not have the resources to get help elsewhere. The students we serve reflect the vast economic and culturally diversity on the east side of St. Paul with most of our children coming from families that live at or below the poverty line and do not speak English as their first language. ESLC was founded in 2001 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in response to a request by the civic leaders of St. Paul to form an educational partnership. Our vision is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to read at grade level by the 4th grade.
