The HAAPI Fest, started in 2004 by OCA-Greater Houston, was created to highlight and celebrate the diversity of culture, food, and stories of the AAPI community, to support AAPI artists and filmmakers, and to share the messages, issues, hopes, and dreams of the AAPI experience for the Greater Houston metropolitan area through edutainment. Around mid-April, we will need volunteers to help pass out flyers and spread the word to the Greater Houston and surrounding areas. - Marketing Outreach (Flyer distribution as part of our "street team"!, Dates and Locations TBD) - Community Relations Support (Support our Community Relations Lead with various duties, Dates and Location TBD.) On the day(s) of the festival, we will need the following volunteer positions filled (Location, TBD): - Visitor Registration (Help visitors check in.) - Volunteer Registration (Help sign in/out volunteers, collect waivers, and provide confirmation forms.) - Greeting Team (Give out and collect Audience Award Ballots after each film.) - Logistics - Set up (Arrange tables, chairs, and equipment. May require light lifting.) - Logistics - Clean up (Put up tables, chairs, and equipment. May require light lifting.) - Social Media Outreach (Post festival updates throughout the event.) - Photography/Videography (Take photos/videos of the festival. You will need to bring your own camera/recorder.) - Audio/Video Support (Support our A/V Lead with various duties, TBD.)

Description

Founded in 1973, OCA is a national organization of community advocates dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of AAPIs in the United States. Established in 1979, the OCA-Greater Houston Chapter is one of OCA’s 100+ chapters and affiliates and works to provide strong local programs that empower the AAPI community through advocacy, cultural awareness, professional development, economic empowerment, youth leadership training, civic engagement, community service, and education.

OCA-Greater Houston Chapter is a volunteer driven organization of community advocates that strives to meet the current and evolving needs of a diverse population through a comprehensive continuum of programs targeting different life stages of AAPIs with a focus on developing advocacy, leadership, and civic engagement participation of AAPIs. The OCA-Greater Houston Chapter board members along with key community volunteer members work to fundraise, implement our programs to empower the AAPI community through leadership training, education workshops, cultural and advocacy awareness, legal clinics, internships, scholarships, mentoring, and civic engagement, and monitor our national and local advocacy, policy positions, and initiatives.
