At SoulPaws Recovery Project, our mission is two-fold. We offer free animal-assisted therapy to those impacted by eating disorders, and we rescue shelter dogs.
We are currently creating a new website and blog dedicating to celebrating the healing power of the paw. We are currently looking for stories about how animals can help humans to overcome physical and mental health issues. We need a person to research and help us find these stories and/or write about them for our blog! An excellent opportunity to build a writing portfolio. Also, every story will help to create more awareness about SoulPaws, funding therapy and rescue efforts!
The new website is in the works, but for now you can learn about us at www.shannonkopp.com/soulpaws
Thank you for taking the time to learn about SoulPaws!

Mission Statement
SoulPaws Recovery Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which provides clinician-led, animal-assisted activity workshops for children and adults impacted by eating disorders. Workshops are led by a licensed clinician and SoulPaws Certified Facilitator. Workshops can incorporate a variety of therapy animals, including therapy dogs, miniature horses, guinea pigs, cats, rabbits, rats, and more. The SoulPaws workshop curriculum utilizes the evidence-based model of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, enhanced by the presence of therapy animals, to allow clients to practice regulation skills and mindfulness in order to further their recovery from eating disorders. Every workshop provides intimate, one-on-one interactions with therapy animals, journaling on recovery-oriented topics, group discussion led by clinicians, and more.
Description
Eating disorders, which have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, impact more than thirty million Americans of all ages and backgrounds. Yet nine out of ten people struggling with clinically significant eating disorders never ask for help. Why?
1) Eating disorder treatment is costly and therefore inaccessible to the average American.
2) Eating disorders thrive in shame and isolation, making it difficult for sufferers to honestly share about the struggle.
SoulPaws is a 501C3 nonprofit organization dedicated to offering holistic and therapeutic support to sufferers of eating disorders, while also rescuing shelter animals. Our programming includes free animal-assisted therapy (utilizing certified therapy dogs and rescue animals), journaling therapy, meditation, yoga, art therapy, and more.
By creating a free and easily accessible therapeutic community, SoulPaws directly combats the shame and secrecy so inherent in anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder, and OSFED. Together, we can practice feeling what we feel and letting it be, just as animals naturally do in every moment of their lives. We can create a pack of recovery and love that will remind us, particularly on the days when we want to isolate, that we are never alone.
