Mission Statement
The HateBrakers mission is to identify, educate, and award those acts and behaviors that interrupt the cycle of hate-breeds-hate.
Description
HateBraker's mission is to identify, educate, and award those acts and behaviors that interrupt the cycle of hate-breeds-hate. We work to achieve our mission in three ways: Meet a Hero, Be a Hero Community Speaking & Engagement HateBraker Hero Awards By hitting the brakes on hate, a HateBraker interrupts the cycle of hate-breeds-hate, whether it be by seeking understanding and healing or bettering the world. HateBrakers works with schools and community organizations locally and around the globe to further develop tools, presentations, exhibits, educational materials, and publications.HateBrakers provides close-up conversations with people who have caused, witnessed or endured acts of hate-from bullying to genocide-and gone on to become heroes, healers and leaders. HateBrakers are usually modest people, more doers than explainers--which may explain why they are often so effective. They don’t go on talk shows to preen. They don’t even see themselves as remarkable. They simply wouldn’t be able to live with themselves if they’d acted otherwise. Most stories about acts of hate end when the action subsides. HateBrakers conducts follow-up stories/interviews about hitting the brakes on hate. When people become more acquainted with such cases, the act of HateBraking will become more common. The aim of our educational program, Meet A Hero, Be A Hero, is not to demonize the perpetrator, chastise the bystander, or pity the victim, but instead to humanize these stories of change-making in order to inspire people to do the same.
