We're pivoting our on-site programs to virtual offerings and need your help!

About the Program:

MetIncPowerCo's Building E-STE(A)M For Youth Partnership seeks to transform everyday places into Public Learning Classrooms to provide science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) exposure to youth K-16, educational resources for parents, and resource information for STEM providers and educators.

Our youth programs specifically focus to serve traditionally underrepresented youth populations including females and minorities living in underserved communities.

As part of our Just Say YES! to Youth Initiative, the underpinning goal around all Building E-STE(A)M for Youth Partnership programming is to build youth self-esteem, close the circle of generational poverty through accessible, affordable and effective STEAM programming leading to secondary educational opportunties and then to employment of a STEAM related industry, give real-world on-the-job mentoring opportunities, and utilize technology as a means to reinforce and supplement classroom curriculum in everyday places.

MetIncPowerCo routinely partners with STEM and STEAM providers to increase service capacity, improve outcomes and long lasting life impact, and diversifyopportunities to expose youth, families and educators to the boundless and ever-changing scope of STEM-related fields including but not limited to traditional and non-traditional methodologies in science, technology, engineering, the arts, math, medicine, and mechanics.

What you will do:

While schools are closed due to COVID-19 helping homeschooling parents and educators close the gaps for their students is our primary mission! We are looking for passionate instructors to lead our middle school and high school computer coding program and help inspire students in the world of STEM-related fields and careers.

Your passion, positive reinforcement, and commitment to our Growth Mindset principals will help transform "I CAN'T" attitudes into "I CAN" behaviors and outcomes for youth enrolled in our afterschool or Saturday curriculum.

Your focus will be to help empower students to say YES to their dreams and goals, and NO to destructive life choices as you instruct them in computer science, coding, and expose them to related career fields.

Once per year, or as needed you will participate in a STEM documentary highlighting the diverse backgrounds, skillsets and interests of our STEM volunteers and partners, as well as virtual mentoring videos for youth K-16.

Requirements:

Instructors must have knowledge in at least one of the following computer languages including HTML, CSS, C++, PHP, MYSQL, Python, Java, Javascript, RubyRails and Bootstrap.

Volunteer Instruction days and times available:

  • M-F 12pm-1pm
  • Saturdays - 10am - 2pm
  • Afterschool 3pm- 5pm
Must have own reliable internet connection, have valid drivers license, be willing to participate in a STEM Mentor Documentary, and pass a national criminal background check. Note: Once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so, we plan to reopen our On-site instruction. Currently this option is available in the following counties: Bibb, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton (Atlanta Metro), South Fulton, and Henry. About the students:

Prior to COVID-19, Students learned coding languages then competed in a national middle, or high school coding competition.

Currently, as the world adjusts to our new normal amid the health crisis, we are focusing on amplifying rigorous learning opportunities through virtual classes and camps. Students enrolled in the classes and camps are there to learn coding languages for fun and inspiration.

Students will participate in ongoing STEM-related activities and field trips sponsored by partners within MetIncPowerCo Building E-STE(A)M For Youth Partnership.
