The Neon Museum

The volunteer North Gallery attendant will greet visitors, answer questions, maintain order and ensure adherence to safety rules, and assist with crowd control. The volunteer North Gallery attendant must be a team player who is committed to excellent customer service and passionate about the history of Las Vegas, art and design, conducting themselves professionally while mindful of the goals and the mission of The Neon Museum. This position reports directly to the Visitor Experience and Interpretive Staff Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Greet guests in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Provide courteous and professional crowd control as needed.
  • Distribute programs to guests.
  • Enforce all Museum policies at all times.
  • Maintain order and ensure adherence to safety rules.
  • Assist with North Gallery monitoring
  • Ensure that tables, chairs, displays, and related items are properly arranged prior to the opening of the North Gallery and put away at the end of the day.
  • Maintain a professional and tidy work space area, which includes cleaning up any debris in the North Gallery.
  • Guide guests to exits or provide other instructions or assistance in case of emergency.
  • Provide assistance with guests' special needs, such as helping those with wheelchairs.
  • Examine tickets or passes to verify authenticity, using criteria such as color or date issued.
  • Promote the sale of Museum memberships.
  • Provide assistance as needed at Museum special events and unique tour scenarios.
  • Assists in a variety of staff operations, performing special projects and additional assignments as requested.
  • Build positive relationships with guests to ensure repeat visitors and an exceptional Museum experience.
  • Provide accurate information about the Museum including, but not limited to, admission fees, hours of operation, events and programs, directions, exhibits and general policies.
  • Field questions about the Neon Museum, Las Vegas, Las Vegas history and related topics with enthusiasm and positivity.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must value the Neon Museum’s mission and articulate that mission with authentic passion. Minimum of one year customer service experience preferred. Some retail experience helpful, but not required. Possess excellent customer relation skills with a friendly nature. Able to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people in English. Able to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner. Must be dependable and professional in all situations. Must be able to firmly, effectively and professionally enforce Neon Museum policies at all times. Must use absolute discretion in all dealings with Neon Museum constituents. Comfortable speaking in front of large groups. Requires regular face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams. Requires contact with others (face-to-face, or otherwise.) Able to prioritize and multi-task effectively. Ability to tolerate numerous interruptions throughout the day. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as member of a team. Interest in history, Las Vegas history, art, architecture, preservation or neon signs a plus.

Work Context

Requires working outside in extreme heat and cold. Requires constant standing. Requires constant face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams. Requires public speaking. Requires contact with others (face-to-face or otherwise.) Requires work with external customers or the public. Interest in history, Las Vegas history, art, architecture, preservation or neon signs a plus.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work outdoors for entire shift in extreme heat and cold. Must be able to stand and walk during 2-5 hours. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to tolerate numerous interruptions throughout the day. Ability to work effectively as member of a team. Must be able to see, hear, and verbally communicate with visitors and staff.

The Neon Museum collects, preserves, studies and exhibits iconic Las Vegas neon signs for educational, historic, arts and cultural enrichment.

Description

The Neon Museum documents and collects neon signage from the 1930s-present day. Some pieces are restored as public art while others are kept in our Boneyard. Educational programming revolves around history, design and popular culture primarily focused on Las Vegas. We are also extensively involved with the media and film industry as a location for shoots of all types.
