SHE-CAN Mentors welcome their scholar Phalkun to San Francisco!

SHE-CAN matches professional women with high potential, low-income young women from Rwanda and Cambodia to personally help them on a journey toward becoming a leader in their country. As a mentor, you are part of a team of four to six women who come together to support one scholar in applying for and earning a scholarship to a US college or university. More importantly, as a part of a mentor team, you help her prepare for and launch her career at home. Life-long bonds emerge as you are transforming her life, and in return you can’t help but also be transformed.

As a mentor team member, you are given a specific role in the college or university application process and work with your scholar on that part of her application. Roles include Essay Coach, Common App Coach, Financial Aid Coach, etc. Once she wins a scholarship and comes to the US, your team becomes an advisory network and part of her emotional support system. The team supports her by offering encouragement, guidance, and a place to stay on holidays if possible and by introducing her to new people and experiences.

SHE-CAN's annual mentor recruitment period begins in February and concludes at the end of May. We finalize all teams in June.
