ORGANIZATION: English Empowerment Center (formerly Literacy Council of Northern Virginia)

The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia is proudly partnering with the City of Alexandria to pilot a survival and job-readiness English program. This course is geared towards adult learners with little to no literacy skills in their native language(s). The program strives to create a feeling of community within the classroom, where students can work together in a supportive learning environment to gain English literacy skills and better position themselves for employment. The classes will be held Monday - Thursday, from 9 AM to 1 PM.

We are seeking Class Aides to provide support for both the students and the lead teacher. This could be a great opportunity for individuals seeking practicum hours to complete their certification.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting learners individually or in small groups
  • Reinforcing learning concepts presented by the teacher
  • Fulfilling other related duties as assigned
  • Demonstrating regular attendance and punctuality

Qualifications:

  • Background in ESL/ESOL instruction. Familiarity with low level learners preferred, not required.
  • Experience working with immigrants including refugees or international students
  • Passion for literacy and teaching English to adults

Please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to serve the immigrant community and make a difference in people's lives!

Description

Established in 1962, the English Empowerment Center (formerly Literacy Council of Northern Virginia) has over 60 years of experience in English language instruction.
