The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks is accepting applications for one to two (1-2) Board positions. The Board consists of seven (7) Directors and two (2) Park District Liaisons.

The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks board of directors is an unpaid, volunteer position. Benefits of this position include satisfaction for helping the needs of the community, networking and relationship building, and ability to learn and develop new skills.

The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks is dedicated to the enrichment of the youth of Des Plaines by sponsoring fun events and providing scholarships for their participation in Des Plaines Park District programs. The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks has awarded over $45,000 in scholarships for programs ranging from summer camp, swimming lessons, soccer teams, and more. Our mission is to:

• Organize events to raise funds and provide volunteer participation opportunities.

• Educate the citizens of Des Plaines Park District about the value of quality parks and recreational services.

• Stimulate and further public interest in parks and recreation, and the preservation of park and recreational resources.

Our Board meets on the first Monday of every month 5:15-7pm, unless there is a conflict with a holiday. If a conflict arises, meetings will be rescheduled accordingly. Board members are expected to:

• Regularly attend Board meetings

• Volunteer at 50% of Des Plaines Friends of the Parks events and activities

• Assist with and attend annual "Golf in the Dark at Lake Park" event

• Help recruit volunteers for events and activities

• Promote and raise awareness of Des Plaines Friends of the Parks within the community

Our ideal candidate would:
-be committed to improving the lives of the children of Des Plaines
-be ready to jump into fundraising efforts for "Golf in the Dark at Lake Park"
-have a passion for volunteerism
-be a team player
-be proficient in Spanish, Polish or other language (not required, but helpful)
