VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR INTERNSHIP
Summer 2017 (start date flexible)
The mission of the Homeless Children's Playtime Project (HCPP) is to nurture healthy child development and reduce the effects of trauma among children living in temporary housing programs in Washington D.C. We seek to create a city that provides every opportunity for children in homeless families to succeed by ensuring consistent opportunities to play and learn, offering support services for families, and advocating for affordable housing and safe shelter.
Through fourteen weekly children’s programs, staff and volunteers create safe play spaces for children from infants to teenagers at family shelters and transitional housing programs in Washington DC. Our trauma-informed programs seek to restore normalcy by providing opportunities for children to learn and heal through play, and empowering them to make choices, express themselves, relate to others, and find support.
The Volunteer Management Intern will be responsible for assisting the Volunteer Coordinator in implementing HCPP's volunteer recruitment, retention, and data-management initiatives to enhance and diversify the organization's volunteer base.
The Volunteer Management Intern will be responsible for the following duties:
- Support the Volunteer Coordinator in recruitment and outreach efforts:
- Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with creating strategic plan for volunteer recruitment
- Research prospect volunteer groups and avenues for recruitment
- Represent Playtime Project at volunteer fairs and events

- Conduct volunteer surveys
- Enter related data
- Support volunteer appreciation initiatives:
