The House Next Door's mission is to nurture and empower families to help build stronger communities.

We need volunteers to be tutors and mentors for children at our Homework Club. This meets on Mon-Thursday from 3-5pm. We have elementary students who need assistance with reading and math. Many of the students come from Hispanic families where the parents do not speak English. This is the only opportunity outside of school where they can practice their reading skills.

The House Next Door also has a Child Development Center for children birth-five years old on Church Street in Deland. We could use volunteers to help the teachers and their assistants with the children. We are open Monday-Friday 6am-6pm.

VCI’s part in this opportunity, aside from running the program, is to provide volunteers with a (free!) comprehensive benefits package-CIMA Supplemental insurance, a Life Insurance benefit, free workshops and more! Call your RSVP Coordinator, Genesis Castellon, for more information: 407-298-4180, x107 / 407-288-7954.

RSVP, a part of SeniorCorps, is America's largest volunteer network for people 55 and over, with more than 300,000 volunteers tackling tough issues in communities nationwide. RSVP shows you how you can apply the skills and wisdom you've acquired throughout your life to make a positive difference in the lives of others. RSVP is federally funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
