The Intern will report to the managers of both the State and Federal Public Policy departments.

Internship Overview: The Alzheimer’s Association’s Public Policy and Advocacy Department seeks an intern to work on both State and Federal issues as they pertain to the organization. The intern will learn about the legislative process and provide grassroots assistance to Ambassadors and team mates. They will also be involved in the planning, organization and presentation of the Public Policy’s Department’s signature event, the Alzheimer’s Research Congressional Update. ARCU is the Alzheimer’s Association’s signature public policy event, bringing researchers and political leaders together for an update on what is going on in the world of Alzheimer’s research. The intern will have the opportunity to monitor legislation, participate in legislative visits, attend Alzheimer’s events, and respond to requests from staff, Ambassadors and team mates.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Comfortable working with diverse groups
  • Interest in learning about the State and Federal public policy-making process
  • Basic computer skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written communication and oral skills
  • Desire to learn more about a culture of philanthropy
  • Knowledge of social media platforms a plus

Job Description:

The intern will work closely with the both managers of the State and Federal sides of the Public Policy Department and will:

  • Assist managers in the planning, organization and presentation of the ARCU event to be held in August of 2017.
  • Assist and support all ambassadors and their team mates.
  • Attend congressional meetings and planning meetings as a representative of the Alzheimer’s Association.
  • Plan, organize and implement at least one town hall meeting that addresses the latest Federal public policy priorities.
  • Assist the Public Policy Department reach its’ social media goals by providing and posting Tweets and Facebook comments to various elected officials respective pages.
  • Enter all congressional interactions into the Alzheimer’s Advocacy Reporting Trends system.
  • Organize informational packets to be used for congressional meetings and ARCU.
  • Gain firsthand experience working on a variety of activities designed to communicate and advocate for specific policies related to Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Help to recruit Ambassadors and team mates as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the managers of the State and Federal Public Policy department.
