From sheep to skein, learn (or share your expertise) to pick, wash, card, dye, spin, knit, and crochet heritage wool. We sew colonial clothing too! Stitch 'n Time is a volunteer based textiles club where members enjoy learning about the cultivation of wool and cotton, and colonial textiles. Each meeting is themed, and will focus on a particular task or step in the processing of wool from the foundation's Hog Island sheep flock.
Hog Island Sheep are a critically endangered breed of sheep with less than 200 born in the U.S. each year. Products produced by the Stitch 'n Time club are sold to support the foundation's Heritage Breed conservation program. Volunteers are expected to regularly attend monthly meetings and contribute to fiber processing to the best of their abilities.

Mission Statement
According to the Foundation's 1957 charter, "It shall be the purpose of this Corporation to preserve, protect and foster, for scientific, educational or charitable use and study for the benefit of the people of the nation, the historical sites and relics, trees, plants, and wildlife rapidly disappearing from an area of great natural beauty along the Maryland shore of the historic Potomac River."
Description
In partnership with the National Park Service, the Accokeek Foundation stewards 200 acres of Piscataway Park. Situated directly across the Potomac River from George Washington’s Mount Vernon, this land was protected to preserve historic views and now serves as an outdoor classroom for educational programs about land conservation, historic preservation, sustainable agriculture, and environmental stewardship. Entertaining tours and performances, customized experience based activities, and service learning opportunities help visitors connect to the land and to one another.
