The Accokeek Foundation's Ecosystem Farm is seeking workshare volunteers to assist with the daily tasks associated with running a permaculture design vegetable farm and food forest nursery. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn more about all natural, regenerative agriculture practices while enjoying the fruits of their labor by sharing in the produce from the farm.
Depending upon the time of year and day of shift, duties may include: direct seeding, transplanting, propagating cuttings, prepping beds for planting, weeding, pest management, irrigating, harvesting, and maintenance of the farm's structures and fence lines.
Volunteers should be willing to commit to a regular schedule, but we are flexible and offer weekday, weekend, morning, and/or evening shifts.

Mission Statement
According to the Foundation's 1957 charter, "It shall be the purpose of this Corporation to preserve, protect and foster, for scientific, educational or charitable use and study for the benefit of the people of the nation, the historical sites and relics, trees, plants, and wildlife rapidly disappearing from an area of great natural beauty along the Maryland shore of the historic Potomac River."
Description
In partnership with the National Park Service, the Accokeek Foundation stewards 200 acres of Piscataway Park. Situated directly across the Potomac River from George Washington’s Mount Vernon, this land was protected to preserve historic views and now serves as an outdoor classroom for educational programs about land conservation, historic preservation, sustainable agriculture, and environmental stewardship. Entertaining tours and performances, customized experience based activities, and service learning opportunities help visitors connect to the land and to one another.
