BECOME A YOUTH COURT VOLUNTEER. We us community YOUTH VOLUNTEERS to act as the Prosecutor, Public Defender, Clerk and Jury during real juvenile offender cases. Youth Court volunteers gain knowledge and experience of how the judicial system works, develop leadership skills, and gain an understanding of community involvement. YOUTH VOLUNTEERS participate in a living classroom environment with hands-on experimental learning. We provide YOUTH VOLUNTEERS with an immersive and direct approach to learning about the judicial branch of government. VOLUNTEER your time and enjoy being a part of a program where you can make a difference and realize your participation can have a positive effect on others.

Description
The THIRD DISTRICT YOUTH COURT provides an alternative approach to the traditional juvenile justice system. A youth charged with an offense can forgo formal hearing and sentencing procedures and agree to sentencing from a jury of their peers. Youth court is under the supervision of a Third District Magistrate Judge, and YOUTH VOLUNTEERS play a variety of roles in the judicial process, such as Prosecutor, Public Defender, Clerk, Bailiff and Jury. The Third District Youth Court is YOUTH-FOCUSED and YOUTH-DRIVEN; we are designed and operate to EMPOWER YOUTH.
