Junior Achievement is bringing our hands-on curriculum to over 200 middle school students for ONE SCHOOL DAY! Our "JA Day" is a great way to impact future leaders, teaching them about jobs that fit one's skills and interests, the difference between needs and wants, and how to be entrepreneurial.

Requirements:

  • You will be trained and given teaching material 1-2 weeks prior to the event
  • You will need to set aside 1-2 hours to prepare for your class
  • The teacher will be in the classroom with you for the entire day, so you do not have to have prior experience in the classroom or working with students

Special note: If you have a particular interest in working with students with special needs, please let us know! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Stephanie Fabro at sfabro@jasocal.org

About Junior Achievement of Southern California

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating students about financial literacy, workforce readiness, and entrepreneurship. We offer curriculum for grades K - 12, which aligns with Common Core Standards for Math, English and Language Arts. JA curriculum is delivered by volunteers or parents. JA volunteers are not only trained and prepared to teach the JA curriculum to students, but they are also encouraged to share their life and work experience with the students to bring the curriculum to life. Every year, we prepare and inspire over 85,000 students to succeed in the global economy.

Mission Statement

To educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives.

Description

Junior Achievement of Southern California is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Our three pillars of success: entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness, are helping prepare young people for the real world by showing the economic relevance of staying in school, building self-confidence, and inspiring them to dream big for their futures.

At JA Finance Park, students are given a unique life profile after answering a series of future lifestyle questions. Their life profile includes an income, marital status, even kids! Using this new adult persona, students work to create a balanced monthly budget while making decision regarding housing, transportation, insurance, savings, entertainment expenses and much more.
