ORGANIZATION: Andrew Jackson's Hermitage

  • 6 people are interested

We are looking for 2 new volunteers interested in helping our Development with databases and simple computer tasks. These volunteers are vital to helping keep donor, membership, and sponsorship records up to date and well organized. They will also occasionally be asked to help with mailings and putting together information packets, but this is not a "photocopying" position. Most work will be at a computer desk placed near the staff break room, so you will get to see and interact with others while working.

By helping us handle these records, you can help make Development's work advocating for The Hermitage in our community much easier and more effective! Donations, sponsorships, and grants all directly support the K-12 programs, public events, and daily visitor services and preservation work at the core of The Hermitage's mission.

Interested volunteers will be interviewed by supervising staff and will complete a background check.

Mission Statement

Our mission can be summed up by 3 words: preserve, educate, and inspire! By working to preserve The Hermitage, we seek to provide an educational space where the community can learn and discuss the complexities of President Jackson and his influential legacy in the United States today. His far-reaching impact on a wide range of issues and institutions is still felt significantly today, and we work to educate the public on the Jacksonian Era and spur conversation on that legacy and all it entails. As a volunteer for The Andrew Jackson Foundation, you help make this mission possible, whether a garden volunteer, gold cart driver, special event participant, or office assistant. We appreciate our volunteers' contributions to The Hermitage and our community!

Description

The non-profit Andrew Jackson Foundation, originally named the Ladies Hermitage Association, operates the home of President Andrew Jackson, 7th president of the United States. Our aim is to increase the public’s understanding of the complex life and legacy of Andrew Jackson and Jacksonian America, to discuss their relationship to events of today, and to inspire citizenship and active civic engagement. The Andrew Jackson Foundation endeavors to accomplish this through preservation, interpretation, exhibition, education, and research.

The Hermitage opened to the public in 1889. Occupying 1,120 acres, it is one of the oldest and largest historic site museums in the United States. It ranks as the third most visited Presidential home in the nation, along with Mount Vernon and Monticello, and attracts visitors from all over the world.
