BEST Hospitality Training Center Summer Intern
Position Information:
Employer: Boston Education, Skills & Training (BEST) Hospitality Training Center
Title: Summer Intern
Organization:
The BEST Hospitality Training Center is looking for a 2017 summer intern for at least 25 hours/week. We are a non-profit education and training program for hospitality workers in Boston. We are funded through the Local 26 Education and Training Fund to provide services for incumbent hotel workers (English as a Second Language, US citizenship prep, computers, banquet server, culinary, certifications trainings, etc.) and we receive grant funding to prepare individuals for quality hospitality jobs. The majority of our students are adult immigrants who work in Boston’s union hotels. Our mission is to provide our students with the skills and training to excel in the hospitality industry and in their personal lives.
Position Description: BEST is excited to welcome a passionate and dedicated individual to intern with us during the 2017 summer. The intern’s duties and projects will be designed in collaboration between the intern and his/her supervisor, and will depend on the individual’s interests, skills, and experience. The intern will most likely do one-on-one tutoring (ESL, citizenship, computers) with our hotel workers whose regular volunteer tutors are away for the summer. Additionally, BEST will capitalize on the strengths an intern brings to the table. In the summer of 2015, the college intern wrote an employee manual for our Salesforce for Nonprofits database. Another summer, the intern conducted an analysis on student attendance. We look forward to helping future interns develop their skills and awareness through their work and collaboration with BEST.
Experience that is helpful:
Background in a hotel or restaurant, tutoring or teaching experience, knowledge of Excel, database skills, or knowledge of a second language.
Compensation:
This position is not paid, however BEST is happy to support the proposal of any applicant for funding through their college or university. In addition, BEST offers valuable experience in teaching, working with non-profits, technology, and much more.
