WNC Nature Center

The Gift Shop is operated by the Friends of the WNC Nature Center- a 501(c)-3 non-profit. All proceeds from the gift shop go to support the Friends of the WNC Nature Center and our education and conservation programs.

Do you enjoy interacting with the public? Do you love animals and supporting your local community? Consider volunteering at the WNC Nature Center gift shop!

Volunteers will be scheduled the same day and time each week.

Shifts available include any day of the week 12pm-3pm

  • Interact professionally with guests and staff, answering questions ranging from "What do your red pandas eat?" to "Where is the nearest restroom?"
  • Learn Nature Center safety protocols and procedures
  • Use the radio / walkie talkies to communicate with staff
  • Answer gift shop phone to answer questions and field calls
  • Re-stock and clean the gift shop area as needed
  • Check out procedures including scanning items or searching and selecting the correct item from inventory, processing payment, and customer service

Previous customer service experience and familiarity with Clover system is a plus, but not a requirement. Volunteers will be trained to effectively complete all duties.

The WNC Nature Center is taking every precaution available to protect volunteers, guests, and staff in relation to COVID-19

  • You will be provided with a reusable cloth mask (required PPE)
  • Disposable gloves will be made available to you during your shift
  • 6-foot social distance space and limited entry will be enforced
  • Staff and visitors will be required to wear masks in your area
  • Physical barriers will be installed wherever appropriate
