Beartooths Fishing

Boulder Valley ICO in an all-volunteer outreach program of the Sierra Club that provides free nature outings and wilderness adventures to children and families from low-income communities in Boulder County and beyond. Volunteers are needed to co-lead a week-long backpacking trip in the beautiful Beartooths Wilderness, Wyoming. The gentle terrain, spectacular scenery, and excellent fishing will help connect the families that we'll guide to nature.

If you have backpacking experience and a vehicle that you can use in driving up to Wyoming, you'd be a welcome addition to the team who will lead this outing. Although fishing will be part of the outing, no prior experience with fishing is necessary.

To volunteer with us, please visit the Volunteer page at www.boulderico.org. Follow the instructions to "Quick Join" the program. Then click the link to sign up for the Beartooth's outing (and any others that are of interest).

Mission Statement

Boulder Valley Inner City Outings aims to enrich the lives of our participants and to instill in these children wonder and respect for nature and wilderness. We are a non-political entity, focused on sharing our love of the outdoors with children who would not have these experiences any other way.

Description

Boulder Valley Inner City Outings is an outreach program of the Sierra Club that takes children from low-income families in Boulder County on free nature outings and wilderness adventures. Our outings include everthing from snowshoeing to multi-day backpacking.

We do not preach environmentalism to participants. Instead, we take children to amazing places at let nature to the talking.

We also run a free youth leadership for program participants that teaches the basics of outdoor leadership, advanced outdoor skills, some earth and life science, critical thinking skills, and the basics of environmental stewardship.

We also run a water sampling and fly fishing program in partnership with the City of Boulder, Boulder Flycasters, and Water Sentinels (the Sierra Club's national water sampling and stewardship program).
