Overview

The Trustees is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to work with visitors during public events at the property. From May to December we host a variety of seasonal festivals and public programs. Because these programs attract numerous visitors, public program assistants play a vital role in providing a quality visitor experience.

Responsibilities


  • Interact with visitors, answer questions about the property, trails and activities
  • Gather information from visitors for mailing lists and promotional outreach
  • Promote the Trustees’ mission and provide membership information
  • Assist with special programs on an occasional basis
  • Assist with light property clean-up, if needed
  • Imparting information about the Trustees and the property
  • Greeting and directing visitors, selling tickets and/or merchandise, serving refreshments and acting as a greeter
  • Comfort in citing rules for games and activities

Qualifications

  • Have reliable transportation to the property
  • Interest in talking to and working with the public
  • Ability to calculate correct change for simple transactions
  • Flexible and independent
  • Knowledge of the ecology and geology of the area preferred, but not required
  • Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces: grass, pavement, uneven surfaces
  • Ability to pick up lightweight objects from ground level
  • Demonstrate good communication skills
  • Friendly and polite demeanor
  • Desire to meet with the public, share knowledge of the property and the Trustees
  • Dress in appropriate clothes and footwear for varying weather conditions
  • Flexible and independent
  • Familiarity with the property or area [preferred, but not required]
  • Knowledge of the ecology and geology of the area preferred, but not required
  • Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces: grass, pavement, uneven surfaces
  • Ability to pick up lightweight objects from ground level

Time Commitment Needed

2-5 hours per event. Assistants sign up for events and shifts that fit their interests.
