GAME CHANGERS is a one-of-a-kind camp experience intended to expose middle school girls in Nashville to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in a unique, sports-centered context. After camp, each girl will be paired with a professional woman for six months of one-to-one mentoring and STEM Expeditions (or corporate field trips) to further explore STEM in sports.
Mentors are professional women at all levels of career in cross-cutting STEM and/or sports-related fields. Mentors are expected to
- Meet their mentee at Camp on June 3, 2017 from 10:00am until 3:00pm,
- Engage their mentee in STEM and sport-related activities for 1 hour each month, from July through December 2017, and
- If feasible, host one STEM-in-Sports Expedition (field trip) at her corporate office, factory, warehouse or other space appropriate to give a group of girls and mentors a deeper glimpse into exciting career opportunities in STEM and/or sports.
Monthly mentoring sessions are coordinated by each mentor at her discretion. STEM Expeditions are scheduled by Play Like a Girl staff, in consultation with mentors, on teacher preparation days when students are not scheduled to attend school. The MNPS academic calendar will be used to plan 2017-18 expeditions.
The following are the tentative dates of commitment for group organized events and happenings:
- Jun 3 - Camp Day
- Jul 28 - Fall Kickoff
- Aug 4 - STEM Expedition
- Sep 2 - STEM Expedition
- Oct 6 - STEM Expedition
- Nov 1 - STEM Expedition
- Dec 15 - Closing Celebration
Camp details and online registration are available at http://steminsports.eventbrite.com.

We envision a world where all girls have the opportunity to realize their full potential. We are on a bold mission to level the playing field by leveraging sport to build a diverse pipeline of young women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers. To accomplish this, we deliver a cost-effective and innovative experience that goes beyond the playing field to build confidence and inspire leadership in girls during the critical middle school years. Governed by a 13-member volunteer Board of Directors, Play Like a Girl directly benefits more than 1,250 girls and women through year-round programs and events. Our multi-year program model harnesses the collective power of collegiate and professional women to coach and mentor girls, helping them develop skills that lead to successful careers.
