The WITSummer Early Childhood program is a kindergarten readiness program that takes place for 2.5 hours, Monday-Thursday, from July 10-August 10.
The program, led by a CPS teacher and a WITS staff member, aims to prepare incoming kindergarteners for school by teaching letter names and letter sounds, developmental writing skills, and reading behaviors. Each week, the staff uses a different fairy tale as a fun way to practice these skills and engage with stories.
Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of one day per week.
Currently, we are seeking volunteers for the following schools:
-de Diego Elementary in Wicker Park/Bucktown: 1147 N. Western Ave (this program will take place at Clemente Community Academy)
-Drake Elementary in Bronzeville: 2710 S. Dearborn St.
-Hibbard Elementary in Albany Park: 3244 W. Ainslie St. (this site will run from June 26-August 2)
-McAuliffe Elementary in Logan Square: 1841 N. Springfield Ave.
-Talcott Elementary in West Town: 1840 W. Ohio St.
-Walsh Elementary in Pilsen: 2015 S. Peoria St.
