The National MS Society is actively recruiting new volunteers to join our event committee for Bike MS. See specific positon description below!

Bike MS: The Road Divided is a two-day fundraising cycling event that takes riders on a journey from Norman to Stillwater. Bike MS: The Road Divided begins Saturday morning in Norman. Cyclists will travel north through Central Oklahoma and finish Day 1 for an overnight stay in historic Guthrie. On Day 2, the journey continues from Guthrie to the Bike MS: The Road Divided Finish Line in Stillwater. Participants will experience routes with fully-stocked rest stops every 10-12 miles, a great lunch stop each day and support provided by volunteer nurses, HAM radio operators and law enforcement.

Your participation will drive MS research forward faster, and deliver services to those who face the challenges of MS every day so they can live their best lives.

Bike MS Committee: Medical Team Lead

Overview:

The Medical Team Lead recruits and trains licensed medical volunteers to provide immediate first aid treatment as needed along the route on event weekend for Bike MS: The Road Divided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and manage a team of licensed medical/emergency personnel volunteers for event weekend (Rest Stops, Overnight and Finish Line), ensuring risk management requirements are met
  • Pack and place medical supplies in designated bins for delivery during event weekend
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team
  • Work alongside Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to secure all proper documentation of individuals recruited to participate event w
    • Acceptable certifications and licenses are EMT, EMT-1, EMT-P, LVN, RN, and MD
  • Assist Staff in organizing medical/emergency supplies for event

Education and Support:

  • The Medical Team Lead will work alongside National MS Society staff for continued support throughout the planning process
  • All committee volunteers will receive training on current issues of MS

Qualifications and Time Commitment:

  • Must be a certified medical professional (minimum ECA) with pre-hospital experience
  • May be required to complete a background check (provided at no cost)
  • Ability to lead others, analyze situations and make decisions, organize people and processes, be friendly, approachable, and dependable
  • Recruitment & Relationship Building experience preferred
  • Must be available to volunteer event weekend, September 28-October 1, 2017, 5:00am-7:00pm, exact hours may vary
  • Minimum commitment of 40 volunteer hours annually
  • Strong crisis management skills in the event of emergency medical personnel activation
  • Affiliation with a fire department, EMS service, clinic or hospital (preferred)
  • Attend monthly committee meetings, with the possibility of more frequent meetings as the date of the event grows closer (All meetings will be hosted virtually online-attend from the comfort of your own home or office). April 17 th, May 22 nd, June 19 th, July 17 th, August 21 st, September 18 th

Impact:

  • The Medical Team Lead ensures safety in hazardous situations by providing immediate medical assistance on event weekend
  • The Medical Team Lead will help build a movement that will increase the funds raised through Bike MS and move us closer to a world free of MS
