Trail ride
Mina leading Shamrock with a rider and side walker.

We meet on Sunday mornings at 9:15 at Morning Star Farm. Volunteers help groom and tack horses. We have three sessions at 10, 10:30, and 11. Volunteers "side walk" or walk beside the rider on each side to ensure their safety. Volunteers that are trained also lead the horse and together we enjoy a trail ride in O'Hair park. Volunteers interact with the riders throughout the ride.

We do prefer to have children/teen volunteers, and generally adults only come as parent/child teams. We do this in part because adults need fingerprinting and background checks to interact directly with the children. Adult volunteers must be willing to make a long-term commitment to volunteer, and do need to pass a rigorous application process.

Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement: To help, to heal, to inspire.....Hooves for Harmony is a non-profit 501c3 organization that offers horse therapy to children with special needs. We believe all families in our community should have access to horse therapy and provide it for free to families who cannot afford it. We also focus on nurturing personal development in youth through volunteer service and horsemanship. We provide a safe, supportive environment for riding and promote education about the humane treatment of horses and natural horsemanship.

Description

Riders get to enjoy the magical relationship horses offer, while also interacting with volunteers on a tranquil trial ride through the beautiful O’Hair Park in Novato. Riders grow both socially and show improvements in balance, muscle tone, and behavior. Therapy is free to families who cannot afford it, and always has been. We are a 100% volunteer run organization and run entirely on donations. Nearly all of our volunteers are local teens. We cultivate personal development and leadership skills in local youth by showing them the joy of helping others and making a difference in someone else’s life. Volunteers learn about horsemanship and how to interact with children with special needs.
