About Foundation for a Drug Free World - NY Chapter

Location:

56-03 214th Street, Bayside, NY 11364, US

Mission Statement

In response to an ever-increasing demand for the "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" programs (www.drugfreeworld.org), the Foundation for a Drug-Free World (FDFW), a Los Angeles, California-based secular non-profit corporation, has been established to spearhead the expansion of these important activities and enable them to reach all concerned publics. The Foundation seeks to empower youth and adults with facts about illicit drugs so they can make an informed decision to say "No" - and help others decide the same.

At the core of the Foundation’s mission are ten educational booklets (translated into 20 languages), each describing in layman terms the effects of the most abused street and prescription drugs. "The Truth About Drugs" booklet provides an understanding of how drugs work and how they affect the body and mind. The other nine booklets each address the properties, effects and history of each particular drug, including marijuana, Ecstasy, crystal meth, crack cocaine and others. The booklets are filled with compelling stories, statistics and facts. Presented this way, they enable every youth and adult to gain an understanding of drugs and their effects on the body and mind. With this knowledge, anyone can then make that personal, informed decision to lead a drug-free life.

Production of the booklets and kits are funded by donations from private businesses, churches and civic organizations.

Description

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

No one, especially a young person, likes to be lectured about what he or she can or cannot do. Thus, we provide the facts that empower youth to choose not to take drugs in the first place. Additionally our Truth About Drugs campaign consists of activities that they can join which popularize drug-free living. These activities are simple, effective and can involve people of all ages.

Through a worldwide network of volunteers, 56 million educational handouts have been distributed, tens of thousands of drug awareness events have been held in some 120 countries and Truth About Drugs public service announcements have been aired on 275 television stations. These materials and activities have helped people around the world learn about the destructive side effects of drugs and thereby make the decision for themselves to not use them.

The Foundation provides information you need to start a Truth About Drugs education and prevention activity in your area.
