Volunteer Coordinator - 2017

Freedom Fest Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting groups of volunteers, as well as individual members and coordinating staffing needs with each Event Chair for the Morgan Hill 4th of July Celebration. The successful candidate will possess strong communication and management skills (people & projects), with a variety of volunteers.

As Volunteer Coordinator, you will ensure that the interests of Volunteers are served and that the Freedom Fest event is well staffed. You will coordinate and schedule Volunteers and work closely with each Event Chair regarding their particular needs. As Volunteer Coordinator, you are responsible for keeping existing volunteers informed via newsletters or other communications.

You will work closely with Event Chair’s and actively recruit and coordinate Volunteers for particular events for the 2 day July 4th celebration.

You may be required to reach out to experienced volunteers or seek new help using various marketing tools, including volunteer databases, e-mail letters, and outreach events.

The ideal candidate must also be outgoing and communicate effectively with a variety of people. Because your will be working with a mission-driven nonprofit organization. The Volunteer Coordinator must also adhere to the values of their organization and convey its purpose to others.

Duties

As Volunteer Coordinator, you will match interested volunteers with an opportunity that suits their skill set and serves the organization. You will make every effort to ensure that individual volunteers feel comfortable with their placements and fully understand their responsibilities and are designated to an Event Chair.

This individual may work with large groups rather than individuals. In these instances, the coordinator serves as a point of contact for all parties. Whether they are working with a single volunteer or a large group, Volunteer Coordinator ensures that all workers receive proper training and certification. They may lead on-the-job training or conduct informational sessions prior to the event.

As the Volunteer Coordinator, you would be responsible for maintaining communication with existing volunteers. Since Freedom Fest volunteers are unpaid and their services greatly contribute to the organization's success, it is important that volunteers feel appreciated and remain informed through on-going communications and Thank You Celebration Party.

Volunteer coordinators may hold events to thank volunteers or send individual correspondences. Informative e-mails and newsletters are often sent to volunteers to keep them abreast of happenings within the organization and informed of additional opportunities to participate.

Like the rest of the board members and committee members, this is a volunteer position. The committee holds a monthly meeting and additional meetings as required between January and August of each year and most of the time commitment is between March and July. Steering Committee attendance is required once event planning begins.
