The Museum of Teaching and Learning (MOTAL) is seeking volunteers to assist the Board of Directors to plan a 10-year anniversary gala in September, and to plan an educational event later in the fall.
We seek creative planners with...
Good ideas for engaging the attendees
Good communication and public relations skills
Sensitive to cost and schedule
Ability to professionally represent MOTAL when interacting with venues and vendors
Ability to work collaboratively with Board members and other museum volunteers
At MOTAL, we educate people about education through exhibitions and events. Our traveling exhibitions tell stories about people-individuals who have made a significant difference and/or those who have special educational experiences. Our vintage artifacts in our "mini-museum" headquarters also serve as springboards for storytelling. Two of our current exhibitions are travelling to different venues: the award-winning A Class Action, tells the amazing story of the Mexican school desegregation in California; our newest exhibition, Two Roads, One Journey explores elementary education in China and the United States.

Mission Statement
Mission: We educate people about education. Vision: We create exhibitions and events to educate communities about the learning process and the role and importance of education in a democratic society. Our goal is to raise social awareness of how education shapes our children, to build respect for the teaching profession, to promote citizens to action, and to inspire change in educators.
Description
MOTAL creates exhibitions and activities about learning--the past, present, and the future of learning--for the general public. Recent exhibitions have shown how education has been made accessible to previously overlooked populations. Since the first traveling exhibition opened in Long Beach in 2007, interest among educators, community leaders, and the public has grown. Designed to raise social awareness of the power and future of education--educating people about education--engaging, interactive, and creative exhibitions travel the country encouraging citizens to action, building respect for the teaching profession, and inspiring change in educators. MOTAL is home to a growing collection of educational artifacts with stories waiting to be shared. These artifacts will be preserved for research and a continuous record of the changing world for future generations.
