Event Description:
Special Olympics Wake County Needs more than 400 volunteers for the upcoming 2017 Spring Games, which will be held over four days in Raleigh and Cary. It will include competition among more than 1,500 Special Olympics athletes from various Wake County Public Schools. Athletes will compete in athletic track and field events, and Young Athletes events. Competition will take place:
- April - all volunteer positions filled
- May 3 - all volunteer positions filled
- May 4 Cary Academy- 500 N Harrison Ave, Cary, NC 27513
Volunteers can choose which day/days they would like to volunteer and for what responsibility which are listed below:
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Volunteer Assistant (Shift: 8am-1pm)- will assist Volunteer manager with the checking in of volunteers, handing out of t-shirts to registered volunteers, and assisting with volunteer job assignments, then will assist where needed after check-in is complete.
Event Station Assistant(Shift: 9am-1pm)- will assist competition managers with timing, measuring, and recording times and scores for athletes competing.
Class Assistant (Shift: 9am-1pm) - will assist with guiding groups of athletes between event stations, and to receive awards.
Awards Assistant (Shift: 9am-1pm)- Volunteers will assist with staging athletes for awards, labeling awards, and presenting awards.
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. All volunteers will be required to fill out a volunteer release form. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their form as well.
Per department policies, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed community service hours.
