Learn to turn garbage to gardeners' gold! We'll provide hands-on training on hot composting as we build a compost pile using food scraps from our neighbors, the New Deal Cafe, and wood chips.
Why compost? Our vegetable scraps help us create finished compost that improves soil, grows nutrient-rich vegetables and healthy trees and shrubs, prevents erosion, sequesters carbon from the atmosphere, and even filters 60-95% of urban stormwater pollutants!
What's in it for me? Learn to set up a simple, low cost hot composting system. Be part of a team that keeps food waste from contributing to pollution of soil, air, and water in landfills. It's astounding how little trash we throw away once we start composting! And... there will be snacks, cider, and smiles!
When? Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 11:00am - 2:00pm
Where? Meet in the parking lot in front of the Greenbelt Homes Inc. offices at One Hamilton Place, Greenbelt, MD 20770.
