ORGANIZATION: Fort Pulaski National Monument

  • 2 people are interested

Fort Pulaski National Monument will host a Park Day event beginning at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are needed for one of two service projects that will aid the park in preserving Fort Pulaski’s cultural landscape after the devastating effects of Hurricane Matthew. The first project will help the Cockspur Island Lighthouse Trail by removing storm debris left over from the hurricane. The second project will assist with the removal of invasive plants and vegetation from the fort structure.

Both service projects will run from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. Due to narrow access on the Lighthouse Trail and within the fort, we must limit volunteers to no more than 20 for the Lighthouse Trail and 40 for vegetation removal from the fort. Preregistration is required. Please bring work gloves, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Tee-shirts, water and light refreshments will be offered to all registered volunteers courtesy of our cooperating association Eastern National and the Civil War Trust.

In addition to the service projects, the park will offer volunteers and visitors a chance to experience special Park Day cannon firings at noon and 2 pm. We hope to see you there!
