NAMI Basics is an educational program for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents (under 18 years old) living with mental illnesses. It covers the fundamentals of caring for yourself, for your family and for your child.

What You Should Expect:

Meets for six sessions, 2.5 hours each, free to participant.

Designed for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illness.

Taught by a team of trained teachers who are family caregivers of individuals who developed symptoms of mental illness as children

Provides critical information and strategies related to caregiving.

Incorporates presentations, discussion and interactive exercises.

*In search of parents/caregivers of children living with a mental illness to attend our NAMI Basics course and then be trained in facilitating it.

NAMI Northern Illinois is focused on making sure our community understands how important mental health is. We serve Winnebago, Boone, and all surrounding northern Illinois counties. Our members are families, friends, professionals, advocates and individuals living with mental illness themselves. We aim to raise awareness, educate, supply resources, support, and to advocate those who are impacted by mental illness in some way. We also work very hard to eliminate the stigma attached. Join us on our mission!
