Editors will edit articles with a focus on clarity and readability for several online health publications.

Health Topics Generally: Addiction, HIV/AIDS, Medical Marijuana, and Sleep.

General summary of duties: This description is intended to provide only basic guidelines for meeting job requirements. Responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities and working conditions may change as needs evolve.

1. Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do this work.
2. Read copy, correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
3. Allocate space for text and photos as needed.
4. Plan publication contents
5. Develop publication's style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements.
6. Fact check using standard reference sources.
7. Develop story ideas.
8. Confer with staff regarding placement and emphasis of developing news stories.

Skills:

Technically, the editor should be familiar with tightening wordy sentences, prefering active verbs, balancing parallel ideas, adding needed words while eliminating extra ones, eliminating confusing shifts, mixed constructions, improper modifiers, and improper infinitives, adding variety to the articles and ensuring that there is a logical construction of sentences.
