Hello! Our non-profit program is an English language immersion program taught through dance, serving non-native English speaking students from lower socioeconomic areas. The program is offered in communities all over Austin, providing a safe environment for students to learn English and build confidence through creative movement. Dance Another World is offered during after-school time in the Austin Independent School District, in Del Valle ISD, Elgin ISD, serves SafePlace, as well as maintaining many partnerships in our community (such as Austin Parks and Rec, Refugee Services, GEN Austin, The Settlement Home, etc) to serve as many individuals as possible!
Each semester we put on an end of semester showcase to show the community what they have been working so hard on! This spring we will be having our showcase at Austin City Hall and it wil take place from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. We are searching for volunteers for 11:00 am to 2:00 pm to help us keep the kids together, to help with snacks and costumes. The extra hands and eyes would be greatly appreciated. Mission Statement
Dance Another World, an English language immersion program taught through dance, serving non-native English speaking students from lower socioeconomic areas. In addition to dance and English, students learn to respect their bodies, minds and communities. Dancing exercises can stimulate visual thinking and perceptions while enhancing observation and self-expression. Students gain control of their bodies, their feelings and gain confident communication skills that can assist them in other aspects of their lives.
Description
Founded in 2014, Dance Another World is an English language immersion program taught through dance. Serving non-native English speaking students from lower-socioeconomic areas, students learn to communicate through creative movement.
Dance Another World works with organizations such as Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) in the Austin Independent School District and with Cedars International Academy Charter School. In our AISD programs, we assist students with homework help and offer a healthy snack provided by our nutritional sponsors, Whole Foods Market. Our program touches communities in every part of Austin, helping to provide a safe environment for girls to learn English and build confidence.
